It is a commonly stated axiom that "the wood dictates the carving", which holds true in light of the fact that each piece of wood is unique, even when sourced from the same tree. Oftentimes, the details of the final product may deviate from the initial conceptualization. Rather than resisting the inherent qualities of the wood, it is important to work in tandem with them. Through the process of handling and shaping the wood, the artist acquires an intuitive sense of its properties, which in turn informs their creative decision-making.
Care and Appreciation
Wood carvings require very minimal maintenance to preserve their beauty. Our organic wax and orange oil finish feeds and seals the wood, and regular light dusting is sufficient to keep the carving looking its best. To prevent bleaching and drying, and to highlight the carving's intricate details, it is advisable to display it out of direct sunlight. If a piece has an alternate finish, we provide detailed care instructions. It is important to appreciate the time and effort invested in creating the carving, and to share it with friends, allowing them to handle it. With time, the carving will develop a warm patina that is uniquely its own, further enhancing its appeal.
